Dear everyone, shall you have any questions for the panelists, please do write them here, and we can begin collecting questions for the Q&A. We would also open the floor for questions during Q&A session.

I will only respond to part of Professor Koki Sato's concerns because most of his concerns will be answered by my presentation. So that other speakers could have a share.

COVID-19 is an interesting dynamic - in Southeast Asia it saw an uptick in piracy, some nations had to withdraw in-person fishery inspectors onboard vessels (Fiji I know for sure), and others used it as a means to tighten maritime borders as illegal immigration on vessels was seen as a greater threat due to disease vectors(Malaysia). In Europe we've seen higher seizures of drugs trafficked by the sea, perhaps due to a lack of flights during COVID.

Also seen many seafarers stranded due to tightened access / quarantine rules. Would be interested to hearing if Japan/Korea/China have faced any similar issues as a result.

(Position of GOJ)There is no doubt that the Senkaku Islands are clearly an inherent part of the territory of Japan, in light of historical facts and based upon international law. Indeed, the Senkaku Islands are under the valid control of Japan. There exists no issue of territorial sovereignty to be resolved concerning the Senkaku Islands.https://www.mofa.go.jp/region/asia-paci/senkaku/index.html

Thanks for all speakers, my question is as to maritime security governance, how do you think to build or strengthen the level of trust amid the conflict of interests between countries in East Asia .

In responding to Professor Koki Sato's information, Please search online the Chinese position on the Diao Yu Island by yourself.
